JEE Main 2024 syllabus reduced? Know which topics and chapters have been removed

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released a new curriculum for the JEE Main 2024 examination. This modified syllabus shows an intentional reduction, with particular units removed from Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. These revisions align the JEE Main syllabus with recent curriculum changes made by several education boards following the COVID-19 epidemic. Understanding these changes will be critical for focused and efficient study as students prepare for the 2024 JEE Main test. The NTA's decision strives to provide a level playing field for all candidates.

Changes in Mathematics:

Mathematical Induction and Mathematical Reasoning units have been removed from the Mathematics syllabus.

Changes in Physics:

The Communication Device unit has been removed from the Physics syllabus.

Changes in Chemistry:

According to the Director of NTA, the decision to reduce the JEE Main syllabus for 2024 was based on the fact that certain topics were no longer a part of the classes 11 and 12 curriculum. This move comes after the CBSE and various state boards streamlined their class 9 to 12 syllabi during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Background:

The current batch of class 12 students in CBSE and several state boards had their syllabus reduced in classes 9, 10, and 11 in the years 2020, 2021, and 2022 due to COVID-19. Additionally, no class 10 board exams were conducted in the year 2021. As a result, the students who are currently in class 12 will be studying the reduced syllabus for the 2024 board exam.

Impact on JEE Main Syllabus

Despite the reduction in the syllabus for classes 11 and 12, the syllabus for JEE Main remained unchanged. This latest announcement brings the JEE Main syllabus in line with the changes made in the school curriculum.

No Changes in Exam Pattern

As of now, no changes have been announced in the exam pattern of JEE Main. While informing about the reduction in the JEE Main syllabus, the NTA Director did not mention any alterations in the exam format. Any potential changes will be disclosed in the official notification and information brochure. The JEE Main 2024 exam will be held in two sessions - the first session is scheduled from January 24 to February 1, while the second session will take place from April 1 to 15.
