NEET PG 2024 Exam Tentatively in July, National Exit Test (NExT) Will Not Be Conducted This Year

National Eligibility-cum-Entry Test-Postgraduate (NEET-PG) 2024 is expected to take place in the first week of July, with counseling following in August. It has been also stated that the National Exit Test (NExT) will not be conducted this year. These updates align with the recently notified "Post-Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2023," replacing the earlier Postgraduate Medical Education (Amendment) Regulations, 2018. According to the regulations, the existing NEET-PG examination will persist until the proposed NExT becomes operational for postgraduate admissions.

The NEET-PG, renowned as an eligibility-cum-ranking examination, serves as the singular entry point for admission to various MD/MS and PG Diploma Courses under the National Medical Commission Act, 2019. This announcement brings clarity to the anticipated schedule, offering aspiring medical professionals a tentative timeframe for their preparations.

The National Exit Test (NExT), initially begun to streamline medical licensing and admissions, is currently on hold in India. Intended to replace both NEET-PG for postgraduate studies and FMGE for foreign medical graduates, NExT was designed as a comprehensive two-part exam evaluating both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Despite its potential benefits, such as standardized assessments and enhanced practical skills evaluation, its implementation has faced delays, leaving NEET-PG as the primary pathway to postgraduate medical education in India.

Additionally, in the context of NEET PG 2024, there are contrasting reports on its potential scheduling, with mention of both March and July as possible dates. A tentative date of March 3, 2024, has been suggested for NEET-PG as per the NBEMS exam calendar 2024. However, sources indicate the likelihood of the exam being conducted in July.

Medical aspirants are advised to stay tuned for official announcements regarding NEET PG 2024 and keep an eye on the registration process, which is anticipated to commence on January 7, 2024. As the medical education landscape evolves, these updates provide valuable insights for candidates planning their academic journey.
